Helmut

Helmut is the fourth child of Fiona (who lives in the Schafer Ranch) and Josef Schafer (deceased). Helmut was born and raised in the area and attended Stoffton Academy. Helmut is eight years younger than his brother Gerhard (ten years younger than Otto) and was a teenager when his father Josef died unexpectedly. Despite this event, Helmut was a very happy child and everyone encouraged him to follow his passion in order to find joy in life. It is, perhaps, unfortunate that his passion is pickles.

Just as he was finishing his studies at the academy, Helmut stopped into the antique store on main street to see if they carried antique pickling barrels. It was there that he met the owner of the store, Greta. Despite her being six years his senior, they fell in love and married almost immediately. As they started their family, Helmut proposed converting the antique store to a pickle shop that he could run thereby following his passion. Over the last twenty-five years or so, Helmut and Greta have had five children, four of which live with them: Brina (a marriage candidate), Ebbe (a marriage candidate), Matius, Garth, and Olive.

Overall, Helmut is deeply happy with his life and delighted that his children seem to be finding their own way.
